Steve Toner, MBA, MPA, is a 34 year veteran
of strategic and international business development. He serves
as Principal and President of Coastal Strategies, Inc.
As Principal/President of Coastal Strategies, Inc. (formerly Toner Communications, a Florida based firm since 1988), he provides domestic and international business development services; including market research/intelligence, strategic planning, and implementation of business development services for some of America’s largest professional services firms, as well as small and medium size firms.
For his economic development clients, as well as some private
sector clients, he has conducted 15 international trade missions
resulting in the selling of millions in products and services, brokering
investments, and facilitating the establishment of new operations
in Europe, Latin America, Canada, and Florida. See all 15 of the

Prior to establishing his firm, he served as Director of Business Development for Belcan Corporation (rated 19th in the US by Engineering News Review) in Cincinnati, Ohio; serving Fortune 500 firms (GE, P&G, GM, IBM, Rockwell, etc.) and the US military branches, taking the outsourcing engineering firm from $4 million to $32 million in annual revenues in 5 years.
Toner initially worked for Northern Kentucky University, serving as a member of the University Foundation Board, and in the Public Relations Department as the Director of Alumni Affairs; where he was presented the prestigious University Service Award upon his departure.
He has served as the Mayor of his city, on the state of Florida Boards, chaired national professional associations, and numerous other positions, for which he has been recognized with honors and awards. He holds an active Real Estate Brokers license in the State of Florida, with course work completed for the coveted ALC (Accredited Land Counselor) designation from the Realtors Land Institute. He earned his MBA with an emphasis in marketing from Northern Kentucky University, and his Master of Public Affairs (Political Science Department), with emphasis on International Affairs, at the University of Cincinnati. He earned his BA and BS in Business Administration and Political Science from Northern Kentucky University, after three years at the University of Kentucky.
He has been married for 27 years and has two children, Lauren and John.
